🚗 m-family — sedans: CPU/RAM संतुलित. सामान्य apps साठी पहिला अंदाज; EKS node groups बहुतेकदा इथेच असतात (k8s course ने स्वस्त राहण्यासाठी t3.small वापरला).
🏎️ c-family — race cars: प्रति GB भरपूर CPU. Encoding, compiling, आकडेमोड.
🚚 r-family — moving trucks: प्रति CPU भरपूर RAM. Databases, caches.

नाव वाचणे: t3.micro = family t, generation 3, size micro. मोठा size = नेमका दुप्पट: large → xlarge → 2xlarge…

Payment plan निवडणे 💳 — तोच बाक, तीन किमती:

On-demand: दर second ला पैसे, कधीही सोडा. लवचिक, सर्वात महाग.
Savings plan / reserved 🎫: एक season ticket — 1–3 वर्षांच्या वापराचे वचन द्या, ~70% पर्यंत बचत करा. जो भार नक्की असणार हे तुम्हाला माहीत आहे त्यासाठी.
Spot 🎟️: एक standby seat — ~90% पर्यंत सवलत, पण पूर्ण भाडे देणारा ग्राहक आला की तुम्हाला 2 मिनिटांच्या इशाऱ्याने उठायला सांगितले जाते. भीतीदायक वाटते — पण बाक बदलू शकणाऱ्या कामासाठी ही महाशक्ती आहे (आणि k8s pods, ☸️ course चा धडा 03, नेहमीच बाक बदलू शकतात…).

❓ काय

तुम्हाला भेटणारी suffixes: g = Graviton/ARM (प्रति कामाच्या एककासाठी स्वस्त — वापरून पाहा), d = local NVMe disk, n = जास्तीचे network.
Burst credits: t-family रिकामी असताना credits साठवते, भाराखाली खर्च करते. लहान, अधूनमधून उसळणाऱ्या गोष्टींसाठी उत्तम; सतत 100% CPU साठी चुकीची.
Bill मधल्या इतर ओळी: EBS disks (धडा 11), बाहेर जाणारे data transfer, आणि NAT gateways (का ते k8s course च्या खर्चाच्या इशाऱ्याला विचारा 😄).
प्रत्यक्ष वापरातील ताफ्याचा आकार: savings-plan चा पाया + on-demand ची मोकळीक + थांबवता येण्याजोग्या मोठ्या कामासाठी spot. EKS मधले managed node groups नेमके असेच मिसळतात.

🤔 का

Instance निवड म्हणजेच cost engineering: न जुळणाऱ्या types आणि मार्गांवर तेच workload 5× जास्त खर्चिक होऊ शकते. आणि spot ही cloud-native शिस्तीची प्रामाणिक परीक्षा आहे — 2 मिनिटांच्या सूचनेवर बाक गमावणे तुमचे app सहन करू शकत नसेल, तर k8s course च्या धडे 02–03 मध्ये तुमच्यासाठी गृहपाठ आहे.

Picking the vehicle 🚗 — the rental counter's garage, by errand:

🛵 t-family (t3.micro…) — scooters: cheap, zippy for short bursts, wheezy under constant load ("burstable"). Dev boxes, small sites, labs — ours is a t3.micro.
🚗 m-family — sedans: balanced CPU/RAM. The default guess for normal apps; EKS node groups often live here (the k8s course used t3.small to stay cheap).
🏎️ c-family — race cars: lots of CPU per GB. Encoding, compiling, number-crunching.
🚚 r-family — moving trucks: lots of RAM per CPU. Databases, caches.

Reading a name: t3.micro = family t, generation 3, size micro. Bigger size = exactly doubled: large → xlarge → 2xlarge…

Picking the payment plan 💳 — same desk, three prices:

On-demand: pay per second, leave anytime. Flexible, most expensive.
Savings plan / reserved 🎫: a season ticket — promise 1–3 years of use, save up to ~70%. For the load you KNOW you'll have.
Spot 🎟️: a standby seat — up to ~90% off, but if a full-fare customer arrives, you're asked to leave with a 2-minute warning. Sounds scary — is a superpower for work that can move desks (and k8s pods, lesson 03 of the ☸️ course, can ALWAYS move desks…).

❓ What

Suffixes you'll meet: g = Graviton/ARM (cheaper per unit of work — try it), d = local NVMe disk, n = extra network.
Burst credits: t-family banks credits while idle, spends them under load. Great for spiky little things; wrong for sustained 100% CPU.
The bill's other lines: EBS disks (lesson 11), data transfer OUT, and NAT gateways (ask the k8s course's cost warning why 😄).
Real-world fleet shape: a savings-plan base + on-demand headroom + spot for the interruptible bulk. Managed node groups in EKS mix exactly this way.

🤔 Why

Instance choice IS cost engineering: the same workload can cost 5× more on mismatched types and lanes. And spot is the honest test of cloud-native discipline — if your app can't survive losing a desk with 2 minutes' notice, lessons 02–03 of the k8s course have homework for you.
